Wonder...More than a business
Eighth
Wonder, Inc. is a socially responsible business that is importing
a variety of high quality, heirloom rice from the famed terraces
of northern Luzon, Philippines. Going beyond the fair trade ideal
of "Trade not Aid", Eighth Wonder has a new vision
for its business model that intends to include the producers in
the ownership of the company.
By retailing
heirloom rice varieties in the specialty food market, Eighth
Wonder is supporting traditional terrace farming as a viable livelihood,
helping to maintain historic high-elevation terraces and ecosystems,
and keeping rare heirloom rice varieties in commercial production.
